As one mortgage market insider to another, amen to all that. But you omitted the primary issue - total government and bureaucratic failures, of mostly of commissions and a small amount of omission.

In short it was Blair, Brown, Balls and Co. what done it. Plus the EU, obvs.

Brown's FSMA2000 is one of the root causes of all this. Plus EU fiddling with bank capital requirements. And New Labour's application of a whole load of foreign EU civil code law over the long evolved UK Common Law.

Taking just the FSMA2000 this destroyed the admittedly fairly pathetic Bank of England's oversight of Banking. But at the same time that Act effectively nationalised all financial services by installing massive regulation. We now have a Marxist banking system with full central control of all currency and credit. And of course the Bank of England was made 'independent', or more accurately utterly unaccountable. Plus the EU's weakening of bank capital requirements. And all resting on a tsunami of bad money.

I think I'll stop there.

Excellent explanation for why buying a house is impossible for the vast majority of Millennials and Gen X without parental support and very timely given the 55th anniversary of Nixon’s ‘temporary’ suspension of the last vestige of fiat currency being tied to gold.
