Devolve Power to the People. With Lower Taxes and Lighter Regulation
Devolving power is a good idea. But don't stop at a lower level of the state.
Andy Burnham has made his big economic speech, and sure enough, it has been picked apart. It’s true people like it who were bound to like it: those who share his ideas.
Given the evidence of Scotland and Wales, the question is not whether Burnham’s ideas will fail to meet public expectations. It is how soon people on his own side are disappointed. Will it be before nominations close in what could still be a Labour leadership contest, on 15 July at 18:00?
