You put your finger on the real problem here Eve - most people just don’t care about this stuff. The most important question for libertarians today is how can we make our arguments compelling to the wider public who don’t think about the longer-term implications of these policies. Only when politicians feel the heat from electorates will they do anything to temper the bureaucracy’s insatiable desire for more control.

I've not travelled to Europe since these new rules were implemented and so not experienced the process yet.

The UK takes biometrics from visitors and has been for a long time. We are only now seeing this as we are facing it.
