My good Lord, thank you for that very profound retrospective of growth versus no growth. I enjoyed it immensely.
Unfortunately though, your completely wrong in my view on your beliefs that the state has to be small and so must our laws to give small cost of government so saving our money instead of enjoying it must prevail to get the growth we all need.
Not only is it convoluted it’s completely wrong. Capitalism itself has failed and failing us in the same way Communism failed its people. It’s a failure!
The idea that capital (money) can be kept and gained and that pit of money is allowed to grow and grow and grow means the rest of us are paying for it and in so doing we are making our collective pot of money shrink before our very eyes!
So much so that, it’s not just us that has to borrow to make ends meet but now our governments have to as well!
Now the only GROWTH I see there is the growth of debt to us, who pay for it and the GROWTH of money held by the rich who are a few in relation to us, the vast majority of people who get less as a result.
That is not just unfair. It’s undemocratic.
And the main reason why it has this effect then look again at the archaic monetary system we have had for hundreds of years. Because they had no way of knowing who had what money and where it was always an unknown quantity. So tax was arbitrary.
And we still believe they now! That money can’t be tracked or traced. So an arbitrary figure of tax is given in percentage terms. Then it was more or less flat rate. So I suppose we have GROWN as a monetary system!
But it’s not just the ability to hold onto money that’s a problem. It’s that it can be held forever! What good has that done? Well it makes the rest of us devoid of it, that’s what. So not only have WE paid them that money but, we have made ourselves poorer by doing so. Because there is no mechanism by which money has to return. Thats not a free market. It’s a skewed one.
So thus archaic acceptance that the rich can hold onto our money in such vast amounts that we and our governments are now forced to borrow it back is at the heart of our economic problems. The innovations in economics have meant a more cleaver and sneaky way to extract money from the vast amounts of people to keep in the hands of the few. That’s wrong on every level.
Now I am a firm believer in fair reward. A fair reward change for work effort. After all I’m no Communist!
I’m very happy that the best and the brightest get rewarded for their brilliance, or for skills or paid well for danger. Or just popularity if that’s what the people want to SPEND their hard earned money on then fine! That’s the capitalist approach I like. It gets us all out of bed in the mornings.
But without a mechanism to return that money to those who paid it then the cycle stops! The payers never see it again! And the recipients can in theory hold it forever!
And there lies the problem. The ability of our archaic system to ensure money returns is at fault. And despite our government having skin in the game and being referee and writer of the rules they still can’t get it right, successive governments who can change this haven’t. So here we are!
I’m all for earning as much money as possible but unless it’s SPENT back either directly or by government from taxation then how on earth can we expect this cycle of fair exchange of effort to continue? Well it hasn’t. And truly, it never will.
GROWTH isn’t the same to all people. For the Chancellor it’s more tax revenue! For us it’s more wages. And for billionaires it more money. To economists it’s more GDP and to accountants it’s more revenues. And to entrepreneurs it’s more profit. For schools it’s more of everything and to drivers it’s more roads. Or diversely it’s more filling of potholes!
So you see GROWTH isn’t precise enough. Nowhere near it.
If the problem is in essence cash flow caused by hoarding money then Banks and wealth funds, and pension funds are all to blame! Saving money allows leverage. A production of money to lend and earn is at the heart of their model but in so doing takes money out of its normal path back to us! It intervenes in its return. So these body’s are actively facilitating this problem.
Banks are the problem not the saviours.
They are hungry for our money to leverage and puts through indebted money for full repayment and profits so we get debt.
And who does our government borrow from? In effect the very people who hang onto our money in the first place.
So we have this situation of the few, hoarding money and starving us of its return freely to us and starving us of its collective use at the same time we are having to borrow it back instead! Getting loaded money in return. Instead of a free market return of money in exchange of work effort. That free market of freely spent money isn’t available. Because of their ability to keep hold of money.
Any economy that has to work for all must consider the pathway for the return of money through that economy.
Ours doesn’t. It’s left to chance, hope and prayer. And that’s not good enough. Not when we can now endure money flows. We have computer payment systems. We can if required enforce money is SPENT by its recipients. It’s easy. We can ensure money is SPENT back freely. And it’s criminal our government doesn’t enact this option now available.
A small state is no good for anything. A large state that makes our needs work is best. And to the heart of its working a free flow of SPENDING is fair. A free flow of receiving and SPENDING is the only way to get fair exchange and total cash flow.
So SPENDING is the exchange and fair exchange is the freedom to establish a fair amount. That’s the flow we need not the one we gave now.
Earn as much as we can but SPEND that money back is the requirement. Or have it taken by government. So either way money flows.
That’s GROWTH. To all. It’s the free and total flow of all money all of the time. Autonomous and perpetual is the optimum state.
Should this be enacted then taxation will be less in percentage term because the flow will be highest and fastest. So in effect taxed will bring in more for less as a result. So much so I feel VAT would be sufficient to bring in Four times more than we pay now, at present tax rates from all taxes and taxation. Four times! Whilst paying less tax!!
