The Absolute State of British Politics
The governing class obsesses over issues irrelevant to everyday life as we stagger on with a broken Prime Minister. Where will hope come from?
A week or so ago, I published this quick video, explaining that Sir Keir Starmer would continue trying to survive and his MPs probably wouldn’t remove him, so the country would stagger on with a broken PM and nothing getting done. So it seems as I write.
The fiasco of Starmer’s appointment of Mandelson and his attempts to survive the consequences of it have consumed the Westminster set – politicians, journalists and frankly, between pursuing my commercial interests, me – but I find members of the public have been getting on with their lives as usual. I was particularly struck at a Bitcoin event when one interlocutor commented that young people are absolutely furious that their lives are on hold because they can’t buy homes and form families, so they buy Bitcoin instead and smoulder…
This is not good enough for anyone. What’s going on, and where will hope come from?
