I think that part of the problem with the governing model Steve is that it does not attract people of the calibre required to solve the problems. We need to attract people with more relevant and useful experience - and yes, pay them more. The issues we are facing are at least as complex as those faced by a FTSE100 CEO. Yet, we put half-wits in charge of running the show.

In years gone by I used to have huge admiration and respect for our politicians and used to think - no way could I do that.

Now, having spent time with many of them, and at the highest level ( you know who I mean). I think blimey - help!!

I am a bit late to this piece. Mr Jay, I think that your point is a symptom of the technocratic managerialist model created (or maybe more fairly) accelerated under Blair & Co from 1997. He set out to emasculate Parliament.
