The Chancellor's "scene-setter" speech was hopeless
A hopeful and prosperous future is possible, but not like this.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves, this morning, once again blamed everyone else for the choices she faces without confronting the truth: big government got us into this mess, and it won’t get us out. Nigel Farage, this week, abandoned big tax cuts while making some necessary policy pledges: he is facing up to reality, but he did not say what he will do about the welfare state now entering into chronic default.
To create a hopeful and prosperous future, we need a return to growth, and we know how to get it: spending cuts and a massive change of direction away from managerialism by the state. The alternative is disaster.
